Police Scotland launch Facebook page for Polish speakers
Scottish police have launched a Polish language page on social media to help improve links with the community in Scotland. Police Scotland has set up a dedicated Facebook page that will include updates of current incidents as well as well as other relevant information to Polish nationals living north of the border. The site has been developed with input from the Polish Consulate in Edinburgh as well as Polish speaking officers within the single police force. If successful, Police Scotland will look at the potential to roll out similar sites in other languages. Revised official figures published by the General Register Office for Scotland earlier this month showed that there were almost 85,000 Polish nationals living in Scotland in 2013. Police chiefs had begun talks with counterparts in Poland that could see officers from the eastern European country brought over to work in Scotland.
Parental Rights and Responsibilities
What is the position if an abuser with PRRs refuses to allow a woman to take children out of the country on holiday? A few groups have raised this recently and it might be of interest to the network. The Children (Scotland) Act 1995 makes it an offence to take a child out of Scotland without the consent of the other parent. It is important that the woman seeks legal advice if the abuser refuses consent. The recommended position is apparently that the lawyer should write to him asking to consent to the trip. If he still refuses to agree, the lawyer should be instructed to ask the Court to grant a Specific Issue Order to enable the woman to take the children on holiday with the abuser’s consent. Needless to say that this will involve the woman either paying for this herself or seeking civil legal aid. If the court finds that the perpetrator has unreasonably withheld his consent, the Court may award the expenses of the action against him, which means that he would have to pay the woman’s Court costs.
Our ‘Out Of Hours’ team have been busy throughout the year, with the women accessing our accommodation, by getting the garden / relaxation area full of beautiful colours. Here are a few photo’s of some of the flowers. The funding for this project was kindly donated by Postcode Community Trust , which is run by the Peoples Postcode Code Lottery
The Crisis Team have been on various group outings. All the outings ideas have been chosen by the women who access our service. The outings have varied from wildlife walks, sight seeing, visiting museums, boat trips and many more. The group outing sessions have been very beneficial to our service users and enjoyed immensely.
